You'd think that a machine that can run Crysis on it's highest settings would be able to run something with graphics as simple as GTA4. But, if I drop three grand for a gaming laptop, I expect it to still play high end games a year and a half down the line. I know that games are renowned for having trouble on laptops. Mine is an 8700m, I have a core 2 quad q6700 and 4gigs of ram, currently running Vista 64bit. I'm thinking it might be an issue with the m video cards. It reverted completely back to all it's original install settings. Then, for some reason completely unknown. I tweaked something, and it worked great for about a week. Then it stopped working, with the same black screen just after the command prompt.
I've contacted support but its been over a week since my last email to them. I've applied the current patch, with no change. Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT (512mb, 256mb dedicated) I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to kill the process. No logos, no sound, nothing, it just crashes. If I change to 800圆00 I can sometimes play the game, but sometimes the screen will just go black. This resolution is horrible and makes the game completely unplayable for me, so I want to use 800圆00 resolution.
I found that, generally speaking, if I do a fresh install or delete the SETTINGS.CFG file I can run the game in the standard 1280x1024 resolution. I've got the same black screen problem that a bunch of other people have reported.
